EAI’s scientists conduct projects to monitor and map submerged aquatic vegetation (i.e.,
seagrasses and macroalgae), stony corals, octocorals, hydrocorals, oysters, hard-bottom, and
sponges throughout Florida in support of permit requirements for marina development, dredging,
seawall and dock construction, coastal restoration, utility corridor improvements, and power
plant operations. Field investigations include qualitative and quantitative assessments of bottom
coverage, density, biomass, and species composition.
