EAI performs beachfront lighting evaluations in accordance with FDEP permit conditions to determine negative impacts to nesting and hatching sea turtles. Using sub meter GPS technology, fitted with cameras and laser rangefinders, EAI scientists are able to precisely locate and photograph individual light sources that are in violation of local lighting ordinances. Once surveys are performed, interactive maps and detailed reports are generated, outlining violations and retrofitting options for bringing lights into compliance. These reports can then be used by local municipalities and code enforcement to illustrate problem lights more easily to property owners, resulting in resolving lighting issues in a timely manner.
