The Nighttime Turtle Walk program provides a unique opportunity for the public to observe a nesting turtle under the direction and guidance of knowledgeable and permitted sea turtle biologists while ensuring minimal disturbance to the turtle. The program includes a thorough presentation covering sea turtle biology, the nesting process, and threats to sea turtles. Concurrently, a turtle scout surveys the beach for a loggerhead sea turtle in the appropriate stage of the nesting process. Once such a turtle is located, the group is led to the beach to watch the turtle lay her eggs. The cost of this event is $20.00 per person plus a processing fee through the Eventbrite website. All proceeds go toward sea turtle research.
Our informational talk will begin promptly at 9:00 PM while our staff is out patrolling the beach for nesting turtles. Doors open for check-in at 8:30 PM. Please arrive 15-20 minutes early to ensure time for checking in before the talk starts. There is NO GUARANTEE that we will encounter a nesting female each night. If a turtle has not been spotted by 11:00 PM we will end the program.
