Ecological Associates Biologist, Lauren Maline, was quoted in a local news article about the recent uptick in false crawls being documented along our coasts. A false crawl is where a sea turtle crawls onto the beach in an attempt to lay her eggs, but decides to head back into the ocean without successfully nesting. Many reasons can cause a turtle to abandon her nest, but this years lack of rain is making it even more difficult for turtles to find suitable habitat to nest in.
Have no fear though, with total successful nests reaching almost 4,000 on St Lucie Co and Indian River Co beaches, we are still going strong. To read the full article visit: Florida sea turtle nesting season false crawls on Vero Beach
