Our Co-President, Niki Desjardin, lived out a few of Ecological Associates core values by working alongside Audubon of Martin County and the Martin County Public Library system to provide “Birding Backpacks” for residents to check out in order to experience the fun of birdwatching. The project is designed to engage the community in our local ecosystems by encouraging people to get outside, feel successful in identifying birds, and to enjoy the bounty of migrating birds to our area. Martin County residents can check these kits out just as they would any book at the library and they include binoculars, lens cleaning supplies, and laminated guides to help them identify birds in our area.
Niki shared, “Birding is the perfect way to hone your biologist skills! Start by identifying one or two birds, pretty soon you’ll be familiar with all the birds in your area. It just takes patience and time. The biggest perk is getting to spend quiet time outdoors. We are excited this program is finally launching in Martin County!”
